Disney recently dropped a new teaser trailer for its animated movie that will be released in the summer. The movie titled Luca is directed by Enrico Casarosa. It is written by Jesse Andrews and Mike Jones, who has a screenwriting credit in Pixar's recent film titled Soul.
Luca will be Casarosa's feature film directorial debut. In his IMDb, the director worked on different Pixar projects from 2007. Casarosa directed an animated short for the studio titled La Luna in 2011.
The synopsis for the film shows that the story will be whimsical. It is set in a beautiful seaside town on an Italian Riviera. Disney and Pixar's feature film is about a coming-of-age story about a young boy who is experiencing the most unforgettable summer. The boy's name, Luca, shares his adventures with a new best friend.
However, the fun is threatened by a ‘deeply-held' secret. This secret is about sea monsters from another world lurking just below the water's surface. Entertainment Weekly reported that the film is a deeply personal story for Casarosa.
Not only was the story set on the Italian Riviera where he grew up, but Casarosa also said that the film's core celebrates friendship. Aside from the beautiful seaside and all the fun things, the story features a great adventure that will change ‘fundamentally change' Luca.
Currently, there are no confirmations on whether Luca will be available in theaters or on Disney+. In March 2020, Pixar's Onward streamed on Disney+ after going to the theaters in just a few weeks while Soul debuted on the platform in December 2020.
Luca is scheduled to be released on June 18, 2021.
