Disney’s Live-Action Reboot Of Pinocchio Loses Its Director

Disney might have experienced success with the live-action reboots of its animated classics like the 2017 Beauty and the Beast and the 2016 movie The Jungle Book, but it looks like the Mickey Mouse House has just come across a stumbling block in the production of its upcoming live-action adaptation of Pinocchio.

The production of the reimagining of the animate classic just lost Paddington director Paul King during the holiday season, and now Disney doesn't have anyone to helm Pinocchio. Speaking in an interview with Discussing Film,Pinocchio cinematographer Seamus McGarvey opened up about the departure of King, saying that the film had been canceled over the Christmas season after King pulled out for family reasons.

"I don't think it's a secret anymore, but the film has been canceled over the holidays, over Christmas," McGarvey told the entertainment news outlet. "The director basically pulled out of the film, for um, family reasons. Disney is trying to find a new director, but yeah, I read those reports that Tom Hanks and all those other people, but yeah, they're trying to get it going."

This is the second director that the film lost during production. King took over as director after American Beauty and Spectre filmmaker Sam Mendes decided to depart from the project back in November 2017.

While this comes as a major disappointment to fans, everyone ought to remember that Disney has a whole lot of time to nab another director for the project. After all, the next two years fans are going to be preoccupied watching films like The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo and Mulan.

In other Pinocchio news, Disney is still in early talks with Forrest Gump and Toy Story actor Tom Hanks for the role of Geppetto.

Pinocchio has yet to receive a release date but we'll let everyone know as soon as we get word.
