Disney's Live-Action Mulan Has Been Cast

It looks like Disney has cast it's live-action Mulan. After a yearlong search, the company has cast Chinese actress Liu Yifei aka Crystal Liu to portray the fan-favorite Disney character, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Fans might be familiar with her work, as the actress has appeared in The Forbidden Kingdom, with Jackie Chan and Jet-Li.

Apparently, a team of casting directors visited five continents and saw nearly 1,000 actresses audition for the role, showing how iconic the 90's Disney film was. The studio also wanted to be culturally accurate, so it's good to see them cast a Chinese actress for the role. While fans do love the original film from 1998, keep in mind that some of the actors were Asia, but were not Chinese. Eddie Murphy was there too, but he was a dragon so no one will be complaining.

Yifei has been described as the perfect package, being fluent in English and knowing her martial arts. The actress is quite popular in China, known there as "Fairy Sister," for her innocent image. Here's hoping she can sing as well since everyone wants to listen to Reflections when this film hits the big screen.

Mulan is slated for a 2019 release. Niki Caro of The Zookeeper's Wife fame will be directing the film.
