Disney is Allegedly 'Unimpressed' by New Mutants

Even before Disney acquired Fox, X-Men spinoff The New Mutants has been having a hard time getting a release date. For now, the film has been delayed to 2020, but news has it that Disney has pretty small hopes for this movie making any money back.

According to Variety, Disney is confident that Marvel Studios can reinvigorate the Fox properties, but they have been unimpressed by New Mutants. The report says, "Disney is optimistic that handing Fox superhero properties such as 'Fantastic Four' and 'X-Men' to Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige will improve the quality of these movies, but bumps must be smoothed over in that transition. The studio is unimpressed with 'New Mutants,' an 'X-Men' spinoff with a haunted-house vibe, and believes it has limited box office potential.'

With the dismal returns of Dark Phoenix a lot of people are hoping that Fox has officially closed the door when it comes to their mutant franchise. Then again, it would just be a waste if The New Mutants never got a release at all.

If anything, fans are speculating that New Mutants is going to get a release on Disney's streaming service instead. It would certainly cost less than a theatrical release, and it's likely that it won't distract the main audience from the direction that Marvel Studios is going to take the franchise.

For now, The New Mutants doesn't have a solid release date, but everyone is hoping Disney finally rips off the band-aid sometime in 2020.
