Disney Reportedly Concerned About Taika Waititi’s Jojo Rabbit

Taika Waititi might be pretty well-loved for his work at Marvel and for his many critically-acclaimed indie films, but it looks like Disney's a bit worried about the Thor: Ragnarok director's upcoming World War II satire, Jojo Rabbit.

Sure, the film might seem like a potential win for 20th Century Fox after major flops like X-Men: Dark Phoenix and Stuber. However, a new report says that a Disney executive feels like Waititi's upcoming film may actually be "too edgy" for the Mickey Mouse House.

Variety has the newest updates on Jojo Rabbit, and according to the entertainment news outlets, one of Disney's executives was clearly uncomfortable during the screening of a film many expect to a major candidate in the awards circuit this year. This executive believes that the film would "alienate Disney fans," because of its content.

This might seem like a bit of a surprise considering that Jojo Rabbit is a PG-13 film much like the rating of all of the films over at Marvel.

Perhaps this executive wasn't comfortable with the film's satire. Or maybe because the film has an imaginary Adolf Hitler in it. Still, the film feels very much like an indie-darling like Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do In The Shadows.

For those who want to learn more about the film, Jojo Rabbit is based on Christine Leunen's book, Caging Skies. The film centers around the story of a young German boy trying to make it through his life by getting advice from his imaginary friend, Adolf Hitler.

Jojo Rabbit premieres October 18, 2019.
