After losing the high-stakes libel case against The Sun, former Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them actor Johnny Depp is facing another setback. Reportedly, Disney is not entertaining the idea of having the actor appear in a cameo for the next Pirates of the Caribbean.
The actor became famous globally partly due to his role as the charismatic Jack Sparrow in the original Pirates of the Caribbean film. He earned an Academy Award nominating after leading the starring role in all of the franchise's four sequels. The actor became more renowned and became one of the highest-earning Hollywood stars of the 2000s and 2010s. He also appeared on Disney's Alice in Wonderland.
Unfortunately, Depp has been under a lot of personal battles in recent years, especially the public legal feuds against his ex-wife, Aquaman actress Amber Heard. His public lawsuit with the British tabloid who called him a wife-beater led to another loss for Depp. He also lost his role as Gellert Grindelwald on the Harry Potter spin-off movie and also based on J.K. Rowling's guide book titled, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Nevertheless, the actor was still paid $16 million for a week of filming on the movie.
The best chance to see Depp is on Pirates of the Caribbean. However, Disney is pursuing the route of rebooting the franchise with Margot Robbie. Apparently, PoC's executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer had the idea of letting Depp do a cameo for the film. The Hollywood Reporter reported that Disney is not in favor of Bruckheimer's idea. According to the report, bring Depp to the film may damage its reputation as a family-friendly film.
Despite the setbacks, Depp's fans are still backing him up. The petition asking him to be back as Jack Sparrow has reached 350,000 signatures.
