Disney Is Closing Fox’s X-Men Franchise This Year

Marvel fans might eagerly be anticipating the arrival of the X-Men, Fantastic Four, and all of 20th Century Fox's other mutant characters now that Disney's completed its acquisition of 21st Century Fox, however, the studio still needs to give the X-Men franchise proper closure before making its moves.

Luckily, it seems like Disney is planning to put a close to the franchise this year. The Mickey Mouse House has been open about the end of the X-Men franchise, saying that their plan is to reboot the mutant film series once X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants finally make their way to the big screen. New Mutant's release was largely up in the air – until today that is.

During Disney's presentation at this year's CinemaCon (via Screen Rant), Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn revealed the Mickey Mouse House's full slate of upcoming films this year, and the entire list included the studio's Fox acquisitions, Dark Phoenix and New Mutants.

This is definitely good news for X-Men fans. While it's heartbreaking to see Fox's X-Men franchise come to an end, there's a lot of anticipation over what Marvel might have planned for the mutants.

Other films set for release this year are Captain Marvel (released), Dumbo (released), Breakthrough, Penguins, Avengers: Endgame, Tolkien, Aladdin, Ad Astra, Toy Story 4, Sutber, The Lion King, Spies in Disguise, Artemis Fowl, The Art of Racing in the Rain, Maleficent: Mistress of Evil, The Woman in the Window, Ford v Ferrari, Frozen II,Star Wars: Episode IX, and Call of the Wild.

X-Men: Dark Phoenix is set for release on June 6, 2019.
