It's been a while since Disney completed its acquisition of 21st Century Fox and the studio's various film and television assets. Now, it looks like the Mickey Mouse House is cleaning up the house, taking out redundancies and canceling projects that won't benefit the studio.
According to a new article by The Hollywood Reporter, Fox's former projects like On the Come Up and News of the World have been sent off to Paramount Studios and Universal Studios after the cancellation of the long-awaited adaptation of Mouse Guard.
"We are now just only beginning to see how all this consolidation will change how movies get greenlit and made," a source from Fox revealed, "They are looking at everything."
This doesn't come as a surprise. Disney did say that it wanted to make Fox leaner, and in February reports came out saying that the merger between the two would reduce Fox's output from 12 to 14 films a year to just four or five quality movies.
That might seem heartbreaking to some, but Fox has had a difficult time churning out successful franchises. It only seems right for Disney to want to streamline the company's production.
In fact, Marvel will be taking some time before bringing in the X-Men and the Fantastic Four into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The studio has yet to see the release of the X-Men franchise's remaining films, X-Men: Dark Phoenix and New Mutants before it can reboot the entire series.
Interestingly enough though, Disney is keeping a few projects like Kingsman: The Great Game, Fear Street, and West Side Story.
Which movies are you looking forward to?
X-Men: Dark Phoenix is slated for release on June 7, 2019.
