Disney Fires Johnny Depp From Pirates Of The Caribbean Reboot

Why is the rum gone? Because Johnny Depp will not be returning as Captain Jack Sparrow. The Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald star has reportedly been dropped from the upcoming Pirates of the Caribbean reboot.

Fans were recently excited when it was revealed that Disney is planning to restart the franchise with the help of Deadpool 2 writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. However, it looks like the reboot will not include Jack Sparrow. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl writer Stuart Beattie somehow confirmed that Depp has been dropped from the project while speaking to The Daily Mail.

"I think he's had a great run. Obviously, he's made that character his own and it's become the character he's most famous for now. And kids all over the world love him as that character so I think it's been great for him, it's been great for us, so I'm just very, very happy about it," Beattie stated.

It's disheartening to know that Depp will not reprise the role in the reboot. After all, his performance as the pirate somehow made the Disney franchise a roaring success. Nevertheless, Beattie believes that Depp will always be remembered as Jack.

"I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It's the only character he's played five times, it's the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it's what he'll be remembered for," the writer said.

It is still unclear how Disney will move forward with the Pirates of the Caribbean reboot without Depp. There are speculations that the character will be recast. However, some believe that the new film will focus on new characters.
