Disney CEO Says They Don't 'Overreact' to Negative Star Wars Comments

It is inevitable for a big franchise, such as Star Wars, to get negative comments from fans; with some movies and even Lucasfilm president, herself, being subjected to online trolling. And since these types of situations can't be avoided, how do they actually react or deal with it?

In a recent interview with Variety, Disney CEO Bob Iger claims they don't "overreact" to negative fan criticisms. "We respect fans of Star Wars," he added. Pointing out that this is of importance to them, to Lucasfilm, and the whole franchise.

Iger said that they're doing the "best job" they can. "We think we had a very hard job in bringing this forward, The Force Awakens," he added, this is because the film has to "satisfy" the traditional fans in bringing in themes and characters they are already familiar with, all the while, introducing new places, stories, and characters.
He also mentioned that he thinks they've done a "really good job" with the sequel trilogy and also with "threading that needle" and "walking that fine line."

Iger pointed out that they know they would never "please" everyone "all the time," he also sees this with Disney and Marvel films. "So I don't mean to suggest that I'm dismissive of it because we respect our fans," he added. But he made it clear that they don't overreact to negative criticisms either.

As for The Rise of Skywalker, Iger thinks director J.J. Abrams "has delivered a film that has closure" and is also "very satisfying." He also thinks the movie is "emotional" and that even though it's the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, it's not the end, but rather "the beginning of new Star Wars stories.

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker premieres December 20.
