Since Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is the final installment of the Skywalker Saga, it's no question that Disney has more plans in store with the franchise. And with the addition of the hit series, The Mandalorian, on its final episode, it seems like this is just the tip of the iceberg.
In a recent appearance on The Star Wars Show, Disney CEO Bob Iger shared a glimpse of the future of the iconic franchise. "It's been an incredibly fulfilling and very exciting journey," he said. However, Iger claims that "in many respects," they are "just getting started."
Iger says they have already "accomplished a lot" with the Skywalker Saga, the opening of Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge in California and Florida, and with a "few other films along the way" as well as some TV series. Despite these accomplishments, he thinks that the company is just "starting to mine the full potential" of the Star Wars universe, and what it could potentially grow into.
He admits that it "took some time," with Lucasfilm being apart of Disney, they already started "thinking long term." Not just in the aspect of "fulfilling" the fans' interest, but on what could happen in the long run. "And I get a sense that the future is far more vast than we expected it to be," he added. Basically, there's still more to come, and a lot of projects lie ahead.
For now, there's already a Star Warsfilm set for 2022, with the director to be revealed sometime around January of next year. There's also The Last Jedi director Rian Johnson's expected film, as well as another one coming from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige.
