Disney And Fox Merger Expected To Result In The Loss Of 7500 Jobs

Disney's acquisition of 21st Century Fox and the studio's film and television assets might mean many things to those following the merger, but to many employees in both studios, it also means termination.

According to a new post by The Hollywood Reporter, the implications of Disney's deal with Fox is far more radical for employees of both companies. An estimated 7,500 workers are expected to lose their jobs at the Mickey Mouse House once the company's acquisition of Fox has been finalized.

The news comes a few days after Disney made the announcement regarding its expected close date for the acquisition. The thought of more or less 7,500 employees losing their job in the face of the merger seems pretty grim, dampening the spirits of everyone looking forward to the deal.

While some aren't that eager to see Disney balloon into an even bigger entertainment power player, Marvel fans are anticipating the arrival of the X-Men, Fantastc Four, and all of Fox's other mutants, into the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Once they do, Marvel will be free to add the roster of mutants to its films and television series. Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed the mutant properties' migration to the MCU, saying that Marvel Studios would take control over the heroes once the deal sees completion.

"I think it only makes sense," Iger told the Hollywood Reporter. "I want to be careful here because of what's been communicated to the Fox folks, but I think they know. It only makes sense for Marvel to be supervised by one entity. There shouldn't be two Marvels."

The only question now is how Marvel will bring the mutants into its arms. Will there be a grand event? What parts of the MCU will the studio retcon?

Let's wait and see.
