Disenchantment Gets Renewed by Netflix, Will Return in 2019

Last August saw the release of Matt Groening's animated show for Netflix, Disenchantment, and though the series didn't really quite hit like Futurama or The Simpsons, it looks like fans should be gearing up for more as the show has been renewed for a new season.

Check out the announcement:

"We're excited to continue this epic journey with Netflix. Stay tuned for more cranked-up suspense, infuriating plot twists, and beloved characters getting knocked off."

The episodes we actually have on Netflix right now are of the first half of Season One. The second half will be coming out in 2019, with Season Two split between 2020 and 2021.

If you haven't checked out Disenchantment yet, the story follows three friends, Bean (Abbi Jacobson), Luci (Eric Andre), and Elfo (Nat Faxon). Bean is the main protagonist, a rebellious princess who doesn't want her role in the kingdom of Dreamland. Elfo is a renegade elf in search of meaning besides mindless work and Luci is basically a demon from hell set to torment Bean.

Personally, I think that Disenchantment certainly has a lot of room for improvement, and maybe what the show just needs is more time to flesh everything out. With Groening basically delivering two pop culture icons with Futurama and The Simpsons, there was a lot of hope riding on this show before it came out. At least we know that Netflix has a lot of faith, enough to greenlight the show for a new season.
