Director Taika Waititi Wanted Freddie Mercury To Score Thor: Ragnarok; Takes Inspiration From Flash Gordon

Thor is a franchise that Marvel seems to be having a hard time trying to perfect, with different directors handling each entry. Taika Waititi is in charge of directing Thor: Ragnarok and says that he's taking some huge inspiration from Flash Gordon in the film.

Talking to Entertainment Weekly, Waititi admits:

"I loved the kind of cosmic trippy vibe of the Thor comics. Another influence for me was Flash Gordon. I grew up loving that movie."

What's more, he wants says he would have wanted to further the connection of Ragnarok with FG by having Freddie Mercury come in and provide the music for the movie.

"I've often said if Freddie Mercury were alive, I would have asked Queen to do the soundtrack. It just has that feel: it's a cool bold, colorful cosmic adventure. And it just needed to be fun."

Just so you'll have an idea, here's Queen performing the intro for Flash Gordon:

Based on the trailers alone, Ragnarok actually looks closer to a Guardians of the Galaxy movie as compared to the previous Thor films. Everything looks so much more colorful, and instead of Norse gods, we have Thor hanging around with kooky aliens.

We don't know exactly how Waititi will be translating his style into a Marvel movie since this will be his first big-budget film. A lot of people are definitely excited on what he has to bring, but some are also worried that Thor will be more of a comedy this time around as compared to a serious action-fantasy movie.

We'll just have to wait and see what Waititi has to bring to the table. I would personally love to see some Queen rocking in the movie's soundtrack, but we'll just have to see if Marvel let's Waititi have his way.

Thor: Ragnarok comes out Nov. 3.
