In an interview with Los Angeles Times, Reeves discussed the possibility of having a sequel but not because the first film was an incomplete story noting that his first movie should be completely satisfying and people would see a new fresh version of the character they loved for 80 years.

“Here’s the thing, my feeling in doing the film was always that I would never treat it as chapter one. Because chapter one assumes that there are more chapters. So what I wanted to do was to make this movie a satisfying experience so that people could experience a new fresh version of a character that the world has loved for over eighty years,”

The director added that the possibility of a sequel will be the audience’s decision, “I think that if we succeed on that front, I know that I have a lot of stories I want to tell and then we’ll do chapter two, but not because we didn’t make this one a complete experience. Let’s just see what happens, let’s see the audience watch it. I hope they connect to it and if they do then yes there’s definitely more to do and I will not be napping for too long!”

Reeves is confirmed to be directing The Batman spinoff for Colin Farell’s The Penguin for HBO Max. There is a lot of potential stories for the Batverse to uncover but as of now, The Penguin spinoff is the only show confirmed. But in a recent interview, the director also expressed an interest in making a Catwoman spinoff for Zoë Kravitz.

While the sequel is currently a mystery, we can witness Matt Reeves and Robert Pattinson’s The Batman on March 4, in theaters worldwide.
