Did The MTG Head Designer Just Reveal The Name of Gingerbread Creature From Throne of Eldraine?


The upcoming Magic: The Gathering expansion Throne of Eldraine promises an exciting fairytale story with high-fantasy elements, and Wizards of the Coast has already revealed some art featuring the set's fairytale-inspired characters and creatures such as the ones that look like Goldilocks, Red Riding Hood, and even a giant Gingerbread creature. Although the names of these new characters haven't officially been revealed yet, Magic head designer Mark Rosewater may have accidentally revaeled the name of the Gingerbread creature.

Over on his Blogatog, Rosewater responded to a fan question about why squirrels in Magic are silly but a gingerbread golem isn't, and Rosewater may have slipped the name of the Throne of Eldraine creature when he said, "I've pointed out the inconsistency. Gingerbrute should be seen as a good thing though as it means the creative team is embracing sone sillier stuff.

"Gingerbrute" sounds accurate but neither Rosewater nor Wizards of the Coast have confirmed that it's the actual name of the creature depicted in Vincent Proce's Throne of Eldraine art (shown above). Rosewater previously that the world of Eldraine is inspired by the romantic Arthurian legend of Camelot and Grimms' Fairy Tales so expect to see more versions of familiar fairy tale characters in the upcoming expansion.

Throne of Eldraine, the 82nd Magic expansion, is set to release on October 4. Prerelease events will take place on September 27 to 29.
