Over the course of the prequel Star Wars trilogy, how much Obi-Wan knows about Anakin's relationship and eventual marriage with Padme is not entirely clear.

The most plausible explanation is that the Jedi master had picked up his apprentice's infatuation with the woman he was charged with protecting, but it was not until later on that he understood the full implications of the relationship.

In Attack of the Clones - the first movie in which Anakin appears as an adult - he isn't exactly subtle about his feelings for Padme. His inexperience, youth, and stunted emotional growth make him prone to clumsy behavior, which Obi-Wan undoubtedly picked up.

When Padme falls from the Republic Drop Ship close to the end of Attack of the Clones, Anakin's feelings are almost fully revealed to Obi-Wan. At that point, Anakin willfully insists that he can't move on without Padme, which causes Obi-Wan to warn him against betraying his duty to the order.

For those who have watched the animated Clone Wars series, there's an additional layer of meaning in Obi-Wan's attempts to prevent Anakin from giving in to his feelings for Padme.

Not only did Obi-Wan have a rocky relationship with his own Jedi master at first, but he would, at some point, be willing to leave the order because of the woman he loved.

That woman, Satine, was ultimately murdered by Darth Maul in an attempt to break Obi-Wan's spirit. As such, Obi-Wan knew that something similar could happen to Anakin and Padme.

As it turns out, Obi-Wan wasn't wrong, as Darth Sidious manipulated Anakin's fear of Padme dying in childbirth in order to turn him to the dark side.

Only after being betrayed by his apprentice does Obi-Wan fully realize how far the relationship had gone, as he visits Padme to find out more about Anakin's whereabouts and finds her heavily pregnant. He's immediately able to deduce who the father is, but his surprise indicates that, until then, he hadn't realized this was more than an infatuation on Anakin's part.

The Obi-Wan Kenobi tv series might reveal more on the Jedi master's thoughts about the disastrous relationship and its aftermath.
