Dane and Maximus are introduced as aspirants to the Brotherhood of Steel, which is a powerful militant faction, wielding the authority of the Wasteland.

Armed with sophisticated weaponry from the pre-war era, including deadly armor suits, the Brotherhood of Steel enforces their will with unwavering resolve.

Talking about the armor, wearing it requires extensive training, a skill Maximus lacks in the beginning.

Meanwhile, Dane, who is another aspirant, is Maximus’ only friend.

They are shown watching in awe the power of the armor of the knights, but then Dane is asked to report to the leadership.

Dane is then promoted to squire and they will be accompanying a Brotherhood knight, carrying their equipment and providing assistance during missions.

But this news sends Maximus into a frenzied spiral as he starts breaking things and screaming out loud.

He is disappointed because he is fed up with the monotonous and demeaning tasks given to the initiates.

The episode then transitions to the next morning, with Maximus abruptly awakened by Dane’s agonized screams.

Someone maliciously lined their boot with razors, sabotaging their prospects of becoming a squire.

Maximus finds himself under suspicion and subjected to interrogation.

He confesses to harboring jealousy, admitting he desired the sabotage to happen, yet denies direct involvement in the act.

Later, Maximus is exonerated and promoted to the position of squire in place of Dane.
