If you have been watching the Entertainment District arc of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2, you probably know that Tengen Uzui is the most flamboyant dude in the Taisho era. However, Episode 9 presented us with a very different Sound Hashira as he and the young Demon Slayers arrived at the Yoshiwara red-light district. But why was it so important for Uzui to change his appearance? Will the disguise actually help Uzui and his companions?
In Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 9, Tengen Uzui told Tanjiro Kamado, Zenitsu Agatsuma, and Inosuke Hashibira the reason why they were in the Entertainment District. He revealed that his three wives have been investigating three suspicious houses in the area that might be hiding demons. Interestingly, Tanjiro discovered that the women had repeatedly told Uzui to try and avoid standing out when he arrives at the district. That's when Uzui confirms they need to wear disguises and that he should personally try to look as plain as possible.
Demon Slayer Season 2: Why Did Tengen Uzui Wear a Disguise?
It's pretty obvious that Uzui likes to stand out. The Sound Hashira lives a life of absolute flamboyance and it is evident in his appearance. However, this also means he is easy to find, which is a stark contrast to the life he led when he was a shinobi.
Uzui's flamboyance would mean he is one of the more noticeable individuals to step into the Yoshiwara red-light district. Considering that he is supposed to be working undercover, it would make sense that his wives want him to appear as inconspicuous as possible.
The disguise also made it easier for Uzui to pass as someone selling young girls to the Houses in the red-light district. Despite toning down his flamboyance, Uzui still managed to use his charm and get both Tanjiro and Zenitsu accepted in the Houses where his wives have been working.
Interestingly, people are loving Uzui's new look and now more people want to be his fourth wife. Perhaps Uzui should consider looking more plain to get more wives (it's a joke, he only needs three).
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 10 is titled What Are You? ("Nanimono?") and will premiere on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 11:15 PM JST.
