If you've seen the latest episode of Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2, there's a good chance you're curious about the new characters who were mentioned (only one of them was shown) by Tengen Uzui. But who are the Sound Hashira's wives, and why are they so important in the new story arc?
In Demon Slayer Season 2, Uzui revealed that he has three wives (much to Zenitsu's chagrin) who have been working in the Yoshiwara red-light district. Although the women have consistently been sending updates by crow, Uzui revealed that he hasn't heard from them and needs the young Demon Slayers to find them. So who are these mysterious women who have been helping Uzui all this time?
Who is Suma, Tengen Uzui's Wife?
Suma is one of Tengen Uzui's wives who is a female ninja known as a kunoichi. She, along with the two other wives Makio and Hinatsuri, worked as one of Uzui's scouts investigating the Yoshiwara red-light district. Suma was assigned to work in the Tokito House where she served as an oiran.
When Tanjiro is taken in by the Tokito House, he discovers that Suma is believed to have run away with a lover. To get more information from the oiran named Koinatsu, Tanjiro pretended to be Suma's sister who is looking for her.
Who is Makio, Tengen Uzui's Wife?
Makio is a kunoishi like Suma and is also one of Uzui's wives. She is assigned to the Ogimoto House which also takes in Inosuke.
While working at the Ogimoto House, Inosuke overhears two women talking about how Makio has been ill and refuses to leave her room. When Inosuke investigates, he appears to hear someone repeatedly asking Makio who she is. It is then revealed that Makio is being held captive and is bound by several obis.
Who is Hinatsuru, Tengen Uzui's Wife?
Hinatsuru is also a kunoichi like Suma and Makio but has not yet made an appearance in Demon Slayer Season 2. According to Uzui, she has been assigned to the Kyogoku House which is the same house where Zenitsu has been taken to.
Although we haven't learned anything about Hinatsuru yet, she is set to be a truly important character in Demon Slayer Season 2. Hopefully, we'll get to see Hinatsuru, as well as Suma and Makio, in the next episode.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 10 is titled What Are You? ("Nanimono?") and will premiere on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at 11:15 PM JST.
