One of the best things about Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 8 is that it finally opened the Entertainment District arc. However, the episode also gave Tanjiro Kamado the chance to honor Rengoku Kyojuro. This, in turn, led to a shocking discovery about his own family's Hinokami Kagura.
In Demon Slayer Season 2 Episode 8, Tanjiro made his way to Rengoku's home where he encounters the Flame Hashira's younger brother Senjuro. Although the boy is more welcoming, Rengoku's drunk father is annoyed by the visit from a member of the Demon Slayer Corps and demands that Tanjiro should leave immediately.
Although he is drunk, Rengoku Shinjuro still has a sharp eye and notices Tanjiro's earrings. He then starts calling Tanjiro the Sun Breathing user who has come to mock them. That's when Shinjuro attacks Tanjiro asking if he is mocking them since Tanjiro knows the original Breathing style.
The confused Tanjiro is frustrated by Shinjiro's reasoning but becomes enraged when the drunken man insults his own son. Tanjiro charges despite Senjuro calling out that his father is a former Hashira and while Shinjuro lands several blows, Tanjiro takes him down with a headbutt.
The interesting part of this encounter is that Shinjuro appears to know a lot about Sun Breathing, confirming that it is the original Breathing style on which other Breathing styles are based. During the confrontation, Tanjiro makes the connection, realizing that Hinokami Kagura and his earrings have been passed down through the Kamado family and that the technique could be similar to Sun Breathing.
For now, Tanjiro will have to cherish the information he has and wait a little longer before he could learn more. In the meantime, he and his companions have agreed to join Tengen Uzui on a dangerous mission that will take them into the Entertainment District.
Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Season 2 Episode 9 is titled Infiltrating the Entertainment District ("Yukaku Sen'nyu") and is the second episode in the Yukaku-hen story arc. The new episode will air on Sunday, December 12, 2021, at 11:15 PM JST.
