This is not the first time a male character is confused for another gender, as some series tend to have an androgynous or gender-nonconforming character like Kurapika from Hunter x Hunter, Grey from Black Clover, and Rimuru Tempest from That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime.

However, the Mist Hashira is, without a doubt, a boy. Despite his feminine facial features, his voice and physique are typical of males.

Moreover, his name, when written in Kanji, is popular among males in Japan.

He also uses male pronouns when referring to himself, leading us to believe that Muichiro is indeed male and identifies as such.

What Else Should We Know About Muichiro Tokito?

Now that the mystery is solved regarding Muichiro’s gender, surely, there is still a lot more to know about the Mist Hashira. For starters, many fans notice that he tends to forget things and space out.

He seems to be in his own world, thinking about something. This makes it hard for him to concentrate on one thing (except when he’s facing a demon).

Later, the manga revealed that Muichiro used to live with his parents and his twin, Yuichiro.

His mother got sick when he reached the age of ten and was revealed to have bronchitis.

His father wanted to find a cure for his mother, so he went on a journey to look for medicine.

Unfortunately, his father fell off a cliff on his way home and died. His mother followed soon after because of her ailment, leaving the twins orphaned.

Amane, Kagaya Ubuyashiki’s wife, invited the twins to join the Demon Slayer Corps as she believed they had potential.

Muichiro accepted the offer, but his twin declined. Muichiro tried to convince his brother, but Yuichiro’s mind was set.

Unfortunately, the following year, the twins were attacked by a demon, causing Yuichiro to die. This incident caused Muichiro to lose all of his memories.

The said incident might also be the reason he spaces out all the time.

He then joined the Demon Slayer Corps and started working hard through training and missions.
