Death of Superman Gets Digital-First Mini-Series

(DC Comics)

The Death of Superman continues to be a milestone story for DC fans. While it might not be the best scripted comic, the emotion fans felt when Superman finally took down Doomsday at the cost of his life was very real. We recently got a new animated film based on the classic 90's story but with the Justice League playing a more prominent role and now, that movie has a comic book tie-in.

So to recap; the movie based on a comic now has a comic. Wonderful.

Based on the animated film, Death of Superman is a six-issue digital mini-series written by Louise Simonson, one of the original Death writers, and drawn by Cat Staggs, with a cover by classic Superman artist Jerry Ordway.

DC Animated reports that the series of the same name will expand upon the film and follow-up on its fairly dramatic ending. Fans already know that Reign of the Supermen is coming soon but if they're up for a retread of this classic 90's story then they might want to check this out. Most people seemed to have liked the movie, so expanding on it isn't a bad idea.

It's sad to know that this is the second time Superman has been killed in an animated film since DC and Warner Bros. had previously released Superman: Doomsday back in 2008. Let's also not forget how Superman was killed in Batman V Superman, making this the third time in a movie that the Man of Steel has met his death.

Death of Superman #1 is available now on digital comic outlets like Comixology. There will be a print collection of the mini-series in 2019.
