Deadpool & Wolverine star Ryan Reynolds revealed recently that Disney CEO Bob Iger asked him to remove one line in the film.
Despite being made under the Disney umbrella, the recent MCU installment was still as R-rated as you could expect with violent action sequences and no-holds-barred jokes that even poked fun at the House of Mouse itself.
Since its release in late July, it has become one of the highest-grossing films this year as it broke several box office records and made Disney the winner of the summer season as all of their movies were major hits.
Ryan Reynolds Says Bob Iger Asked Him to Remove a Line in Deadpool & Wolverine
During his recent appearance at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, Reynolds shared that Iger asked him to remove a line in Deadpool & Wolverine.
"There was only one line in the entire film that they asked me to take out," he said before clarifying that he didn't take any issue with the request, "No. No. No! And they were right!"
While he didn't reveal what line Iger requested to remove, Reynolds admitted that he had initial hesitation to do it before he realized that it was the right move.
"As soon as somebody says something, like, ‘Ryan, Bob Iger here. Would love it if you’d take that one line out. It’s really going to make our life hard over here.’ As soon as they say that, there’s just something in my brain that goes, ‘Must keep line! Precious!’" the actor explained.
"And then as soon as the fog of war lifts and you have a second thought, it’s like, ‘Of course I can take that out. Can I say something about Pinocchio instead? And the answer is yes!"
It's not surprising that the Disney CEO asked Reynolds to remove a line in the film since he has to be protective of his company's image and make sure their product aligns with their values.
While it may sound like a big deal at the beginning, it sounded like it was just a small issue that could easily be taken care of and it did not affect the entire plot of the film.
After all, when you watch the film in its entirety, you'll realize that they were able to get away with a lot of the R-rated elements despite being made by Disney, and Reynolds and his team still have a lot of creative freedom to fully realize their vision.
