Deadpool 3 Taps Succession Star Matthew Macfadyen to Join their Ensemble

Since Succession premiered in 2018 it became a smashing success, alluring not just the viewers but the critics as well. Now that it is in its fourth and final season, it continues to stand its reputation of being one of the best dramas in today’s time. So far, almost every major character has been nominated or won an Emmy for their work on this show, including Matthew Macfadyen, who portrays Tom Wambsgans in the HBO hit drama.

Given that Succession is a show of the elite and business people, some fans never thought that one from the cast would be joining a franchise like Marvel, especially if it’s Macfadyen, who seems to be the least likely or random choice to assume a superhero role, but he did as Deadline recently reported. He is said to be joining Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in Deadpool 3, alongside MCU newcomer and The Crown star Emma Corrin, who presumably will star as the film’s villain.

For Macfadyen’s fans who’ve heard or read the actor’s remark on superhero outings, you will be as surprised as we are to know that he echoed Martin Scorsese’s comment that superhero projects are not cinema, as he said that superhero movies are all just money and not entirely quality. “I’ve done one big film like that, and it was a green-screen thing. It’s ass-paralyzingly boring, just acting to tennis balls and dots on the screen. You’re doing it for the money.” he said in the Vanity Fair profile for the magazine’s June 2022 issue.

Macfadyen rose to prominence after playing Mr. Darcy in the 2005 film Pride & Prejudice, but his role as Tom in Succession paved the way for the actor to get on higher levels, as he received a Primetime Emmy Award, two BAFTA Awards, and a Screen Actors Guild Award for his endearing performance in the comedy-drama. So far, the American actor has also starred in various films, including Death at a Funeral, Frost/Nixon, Anna Karenina, The Assistant, and Operation Mincemeat.

Deadpool 3 premieres in theaters on September 6, 2024.
