Deadpool 2 Has Become The X-Men Franchise’s Highest Grossing Entry

Deadpool 2 might not directly take part in Fox's X-Men film series, but it looks like the Deadpool sequel has become the X-Men franchise's highest grossing comic book movie. Last weekend, Deadpool 2 passed a major milestone at the box office, raking in enough money to make it Fox's most commercially successful X-Men movie.

The Hollywood Reporter has the newest deets on Deadpool 2's box office performance, and according to the entertainment news outlet, the film has just passed $784 million at the worldwide box office thanks to the re-cut PG13 version of the film, Once Upon A Deadpool.

The sequel to Fox's first R-Rated Deadpool movie made the milestone during the NFL's Super Bowl Weekend, allowing the film to creep past the original Deadpool and its $783 million earnings.

While the film's success doesn't necessarily come as a surprise, these new numbers are a result of Once Upon A Deadpool. The Deadpool 2 family-friendly holiday remake allowed younger audiences to see the film, adding to the earnings from the Deadpool sequel's original theatrical run.

Before December, Deadpool had $783 million from both international and domestic film markets. The film got another boost after the release of Once Upon A Deadpool, a PG-13 Christmas version of the sequel. Because of its family-friendly rating, Once Upon A Deadpool was able to see release in China. The R-Rated Deadpool 2 was not able to arrive in the East Asian country last year, stymied by its gritty rating.

Together with the $45 million earnings of Once Upon A Deadpool, Deadpool 2 has finally been able to leave a major mark on the X-Men franchise.
