There's no two ways about it — George Clooney has cemented his legacy in the world of comic book films as the "worst" Batman, something that the Hollywood icon has long accepted. This week, however, a hot rumor began circulating all over social media claiming that the 61-year-old actor is poised to make his return as the caped crusader in the DC Universe.

According to several sources, Clooney is set to make a cameo appearance in Ezra Miller's standalone The Flash film being the third Batman to be involved in the upcoming flick. Shockingly enough, insider Grace Randolph also reported that not only will he pop up during The Flash's ending but he could also stick around to become the franchise's main Dark Knight under the James Gunn and Peter Safran regime.

The DC Studios co-CEO immediately debunked the report saying Clooney is "absolutely not" the DCU's main Batman. Still, fans aren't too thrilled with the idea of him returning to the DC Universe even just for a brief cameo. Others are finding humor in the potential casting but for the most part, the reception has been negative. Check out some of the reactions below:

Personally speaking, I don't see any problem with Clooney potentially making a cameo appearance in The Flash because that's what the film's concept is all about. But if he does end up getting cast as the DCU's main Batman, then Gunn and Safran just contradicted themselves.

But hey, as bad as Batman & Robin was, I don't think Clooney was the problem. If anything, he was just a victim of poor creative decisions and I would totally love to see him get his redemption arc.

DC's The Flash is scheduled for theatrical release on June 16, 2023.
