The DC Universe has been making a ton of noise over the last couple of weeks, especially after James Gunn and Peter Safran finally laid out their grand scheme for the franchise's first ten years. But if you thought that was it, the DCU is once again generating buzz within the comic book film fandom following the emergence of a wild rumor claiming that George Clooney will be suiting up once again as Batman, nearly three decades since he starred in Batman & Robin.

According to multiple sources, including Twitter insiders MyTimeToShineHello and CanWeGetSomeToast, the 61-year-old star is returning as the caped crusader in The Flash, a film that already has Michael Keaton and Ben Affleck in it.

Unsurprisingly, the rumor spread like wildfire all over social media and it led to speculations surrounding the possibility of Clooney being cast as the new DCU's main Dark Knight. Now, Gunn is clearing the air amid the latest DCU reports.

Responding to a fan who asked if the rumors surrounding Clooney becoming the new DCU's main Batman were true, Gunn quickly dispelled the circulating reports. The DC Studios co-CEO wrote: "Absolutely not."

Responding to another fan, the Superman: Legacy writer confirmed that the franchise's Batman will be played by a new actor which shouldn't really come as a surprise as he and Peter Safran already announced that Ben Affleck will not be part of the DCU in an acting role.

If you'll notice though, Gunn didn't exactly confirm whether or not Clooney appears in The Flash, and if anything, that's where the rumor started before things were blown out of proportion.

DC's The Flash is scheduled for theatrical release on June 16, 2023.
