Leading up to its release this week, The Flash has been receiving a lot of positive reactions from critics, audiences, and industry insiders with some of the praise going towards Andy Muschietti's direction of the film.

As a result, there have been rumors for the past few weeks that his exceptional work in the film has led him to become the top choice to helm the DCU's The Brave and the Bold for DC Studios under James Gunn and Peter Safran.

During that time, neither side has confirmed the rumor although Muschietti has also teased that the conversation might actually be happening and declined to comment on whether it is true.

Now, we finally have the confirmation that we're waiting for.

Variety has confirmed that Muschietti is directing The Brave and the Bold for DC Studios. His sister Barbara Muschietti will also serve as a producer of the film via her label Double Dream alongside Gunn and Safran.

The film is based on the comic series by Grant Morrison and it will center on the father-son relationship between Bruce Wayne/Batman and Damian Wayne, who serves as Robin. There is no screenwriter attached at the moment.

"We saw The Flash; even before taking the reins at DC Studios, and knew we were in the hands of not only a visionary director but a massive DC fan," Gunn and Safran said in a statement.

"It’s a magnificent film – funny, emotional, thrilling – and Andy’s affinity and passion for these characters and this world just resonates through every frame. So, when it came time to find a director for The Brave and the Bold, there was really only one choice. Luckily, Andy said yes."

They continued, "Barbara signed on to produce with us and we were on our way. They’re an extraordinary team, and we couldn’t have better or more inspiring partners as we embark on this thrilling new adventure in the DCU."

This is certainly exciting news for DC fans since we finally have the confirmation that we've been waiting for and, with the reception that The Flash received, there is an assurance that the project will be in good hands.

However, since the writers' strike is still happening, it might take a while before they can hire a screenwriter who can work on the film and for the project to also move forward even further beyond this stage.
