DC Studios Boss Retracts Statement on Crossover With MCU: ‘Not Today’

With the multiverse soon coming to the DCU, it’s no wonder that Marvel will also eventually join together in some form of a crossover with one another. At least, that’s what DC Studios boss James Gunn previously suggested.

“I’m certain that’s more likely now that I’m in charge [at DC]. Who knows?” Gunn said.

While this led fandoms on both franchises in a frenzy, Gunn is now clarifying his previous statement during a red carpet interview with Deadline.

“I think that [a DCU/MCU crossover] would look like something that would be happening in about 10 years,” Gunn said. “Not today, because we have a whole bunch of other DC movies we need to tell.”

Gunn added: “But yeah, I think it could be cool.”

It is worth mentioning that even though Gunn confirmed Marvel is “more likely” getting a crossover with DC now, he did say, “That’s many years away, though. We have to establish what we’re doing at [DC] first.”

But don’t fret! Gunn did also mention having discussions on the concept before, though “light-hearted” and “fun”, these discussions will more or less end up on the big screens someday.

In honor of ending his Guardians trilogy with Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, Gunn recently declared he is eager to find a place for his cast in the world of DCU.

“I cannot tell you how close I am to Chris Pratt and Pom [Klementieff] and Dave [Bautista] and Zoe [Saldaña] and Karen [Gillan],” Gunn shared.

“But I also know I will work again with all those people individually again. Probably at my other job [laughs],” Gunn added, sparking rumors among fans that he will indeed be bringing these actors to jump to DCU after his film ends.

It remains to be seen when exactly the MCU/DCU crossover is happening, but one thing is for sure, as long as Kevin Feige and James Gunn are in the lead of the studios, this will not go in the bin.

For now, James Gunn’s last Marvel project, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, premieres on May 5.
