The storied history and romantic relationship between Batman and Catwoman have been told on several DC media over the last couple of years which is why it's not so surprising that HBO Max's animated Harley Quinn series also wants to have it featured. However, despite the general consensus that the Kaley Cuoco-led series' showrunners are given all the creative freedom in the world, DC will still call the shots in the end.
Apparently, the upcoming third season of Harley Quinn would have included a controversial and NSFW sequence between Bruce Wayne and Selina Kyle but according to executive producers Justin Halpern and Patrick Schumacker, DC Entertainment meddled with the idea. In an interview with Variety, Halpern reveals that Season 3 would've featured Batman performing oral sex on Catwoman but DC thought it was tasteless, even for a series originally aimed towards the adult demographic.
Halpern explains: "In the third season of ‘Harley' we had a moment where Batman was going down on Catwoman. And DC was like, ‘You can't do that. You absolutely cannot do that.' They're like, ‘Heroes don't do that.' So, we said, ‘Are you saying heroes are just selfish lovers?' They were like, ‘No, it's that we sell consumer toys for heroes. It's hard to sell a toy if Batman is also going down on someone.'"
It's a little odd when you think about it considering the show is known for pushing the envelope in terms of mature storytelling but I guess DC doesn't want to go overboard with all the obscenity. Hopefully, DC turning down that specific scene doesn't mean that we're getting ourselves a more watered-down version of the animated series.
No official release date has been announced for Harley Quinn Season 3.
