DC is Ending Supergirl This May

It looks like all good things come to an end after all as DC Comics has announced that Supergirl will be finishing up this May. After the series was brought back when Brian Michael Bendis' Superman run started, the comic will soon end with Supergirl #42. This is actually surprising since The CW is currently airing a really popular live-action series based on the character but it looks like that show has more viewers than this comic has readers.

The news was revealed in DC's May 2020 solicitations, which reveals that Supergirl is considered a threat by the US military. As if this wasn't enough, Supergirl also has some "superstorm" to stop so that she can prove herself a hero, even though she's saved the world multiple times by now. No official reason for the cancelation was given, according to Newsarama, so we can only assume that it's low sales.

Here's the final issue's solicitation:

Deemed a threat by the U.S. military, Supergirl is now a wanted villain! General Corvid has come for our hero—and she won't give up until Kara's gone for good. Meanwhile, the superstorm rages stronger than ever, while hundreds remain helpless against it. Can Supergirl prove that she's the hero the people once believed her to be? Or will she let everyone down—including herself? Find out in the pulse-pounding series conclusion!

Since there's still a CW series, we're going to assume that another Supergirl series will be announced again, just not anytime soon. It's also worth noting that Batwoman and Green Arrow also don't have comic books right now, which might be an indication that the CW shows don't really give these comics any protection.

Fans can pick up Supergirl #42 on May 27.
