Harley Quinn just celebrated her 30th year in the DC Universe and it's quite astonishing how the character, who was originally supposed to be a one-off villain in Batman: The Animated Series ultimately became one of geek culture's most popular anti-heroes.
Harley has embarked on countless adventures in the pages of comics, animation, and live-action and now, fans are clamoring for her to be presented in a completely different light.
It turns out that DC fans have kickstarted a movement calling for Harley to become a trans woman in the official DC canon. On Twitter, the hashtag #MakeHarleyQuinnATransWoman quickly rose atop the social media platform's trending topics, and unsurprisingly, the reception has been mixed.
We're not quite sure how the whole campaign started or what's the motive behind it but it's gaining a lot of traction on social media so far. Check out some of the tweets below:

Harley has identified herself as a bisexual in the DC Universe for quite some time now and even Margot Robbie's live-action iteration of the character is confirmed to be part of the LGBTQ+ community. Now, as for the possibility of the character actually becoming a trans woman in various media, the idea doesn't seem too farfetched because remember, there are various Earths in the DCU so there could at least be one version of Harley who is a trans woman.
The real question is, is DC actually brave enough to gender-bend the character in the near future? I guess we'll just have to wait and see but personally speaking, I wouldn't mind it at all.
Meanwhile, Harley Quinn will return to the big screen in Joker: Folie à Deux which is scheduled to hit cinemas on October 4, 2024.
