DC Fans Find James Gunn’s Superman Reboot Film Underwhelming

After much anticipation with James Gunn reconstructing the DCU, surely enough, the official movie synopsis for the Superman reboot, Superman: Legacy, has finally been released by Warner Bros.! DCU’s Chapter 1 slate titled Gods and Monsters is set to begin with Superman: Legacy, as expected, and now that the storyline has been unveiled, DC fans can’t help but feel underwhelmed at how predictable the film is going to be. Check out the plot for the Superman reboot below:

Superman: Legacy tells the story of Superman’s journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent of Smallville, Kansas. He is the embodiment of truth, justice, and the American way, guided by human kindness in a world that sees kindness as old-fashioned.

DC fans were taken by surprise at how oddly similar the plot synopsis is, close enough to find semblance with Henry Cavill’s Man of Steel. Fans also took to Twitter their concerns on Gunn chewing more than he could, as he had initially promised that the Superman reboot is not a new origin story. Unfortunately, the storyline for Superman: Legacy begs to differ.

Amid Gunn’s controversial decision for the Superman reboot synopsis, he took to Twitter his sentiments on how he could make Clark Kent’s origin story a bit different from its previous variations: “Then a bit less than a year ago, I saw a way in, in many ways centering around Superman’s heritage — how both his aristocratic Kryptonian parents and his Kansas farmer parents inform who he is and the choices he makes.”

While this isn’t exactly what DC fans have waited years for, it looks like we’ll have to wait again until Gunn responds to allegations on whether or not Superman: Legacy is yet another origin film for the Man of Steel.

For now, DC’s Superman: Legacy is set to premiere on July 11, 2025.
