It can't be denied that Matt Reeves' standalone The Batman film which will mark Robert Pattinson's debut as the caped crusader is one of the most anticipated DC films right now but the project's release has been halted on more than one occasion. Originally set for release this year, the project's actual premiere date had to be pushed back to 2022 due to filming delays but on a promising note, filming has officially wrapped up and it's safe to assume that Reeves and his crew are already working on the post-production aspect of the film.
However, time is apparently running out for avid Batman fan Justin Ward who is currently battling a terminal illness. Ward is diagnosed with Brain Metastasis and according to him, he only has a few months left to live which is why he took to social media to call the attention of Warner Bros. and let them know about his dying wish — that is to see The Batman before it hits theaters next year.
In a Twitter thread, Ward describes the upcoming DC flick as his "#1 movie I held on for" and tagged Andy Serkis, Matt Reeves, and WB's official page in hopes of them granting his wish. He referred to his petition as #TheBatmanDeathWish. The series of tweets that were posted last week has gone viral as the entire DC fandom rally behind Ward. Check out his tweet below:
Considering The Batman's filming wrapped up just last March, the odds of the film actually getting completed in a short amount of time are pretty slim. However, I still hope that Reeves and WB will go out of their way and show a portion of the film to Ward even if it's not 100% polished. It's quite obvious that it means the world to him and I'm sure he'll forever be grateful for the gesture. Just do it already, Warner Bros.
The Batman is slated for release in 2022.
