Robin used to get a bad rep back in the day, due to the stigma that surrounded younger characters, probably because they would often get captured or bask in the glory of their older hero. Still, creators stuck it out with Robin and the character has managed to become quite the icon, even if he'll always be connected to Batman in some fashion. Well, DC has decided to celebrate the character's 80th birthday by announcing the Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Special.
Wow, what a mouthful.
Similar to Action Comics #1000, Detective Comics #1000, Wonder Woman #750, and The Flash #750, Robin 80th Anniversary will have some of the character's best creators in one book. This will be an anthology, just like the books above, and it should be a good one, given how many people have used the Robin alias.
Here's the press release (via Newsarama):
On March 11, 2020, DC celebrates Robin's 80th anniversary with a landmark one-shot, Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Super Spectacular. This instant collectible includes stories from comics' greatest Robin writers, paying tribute to the character in various guises, including Dick Grayson, Jason Todd, Tim Drake, Stephanie Brown and Damian Wayne. The Talent list for these stories reads like a whos-who list of comic luminaries, such as Marv Wolfman, Tom Grummett, Chuck Dixon, Scott McDaniel, Devin Grayson, Dan Jurgens, Norm Rapmund, Tim Seeley, Tom King and Mikel Janin, James Tynion IV, Peter J. Tomasi, Judd Winick and others.
As a big fan of Robin, I'm intrigued by the kind of stories we'll see in this massive one-shot. The character's main arc is almost-always about being Nightwing or growing up so it will be nice to see the various characters under the Robin moniker getting spotlighted for who they are; kids who want to do good.
Robin 80th Anniversary 100-Page Special comes out on March 11.
