DC and Warner Bros. Announce Constantine: City of Demons Animated Film

In an effort to release more animated films that don't star Batman, Superman, or any member from the Justice League, DC and Warner Bros. have announced Constantine: City of Demons. This will feature the first five episodes of the Constantine CW Seed series and an additional hour of original material, which is a nice touch.

Like The Killing Joke film before it (but hopefully better) this will be an R-rated animated film so you might want to put the kids to sleep before watching this. Constantine has always been a character who works better in a mature setting so making this an adult-only viewing experience was a smart move.

The film's plot revolves around Chas' daughter Trish, whose soul has been captured by demons and it's up to John Constantine to save her. It sounds just like an episode of the live-action show, which should make fans of the short-lived series happy.

Here's the synopsis (via CBR):

"A decade after a tragic mistake, family man Chas and occult detective John Constantine set out to cure Chas's daughter Trish from a mysterious supernatural coma. With the help of the mysterious Nightmare Nurse, the influential Queen of Angels, and brutal Aztec God Mictlantecuhtli, the pair just might have a chance at outsmarting the demon Beroul to save Trish's soul. In a world of shadows and dark magic, not everything is what it seems, and there's always a price to pay. The path to redemption is never easy, and if Constantine is to succeed, he must navigate through the dark urban underbelly of Los Angeles, outwit the most cunning spawns of hell, and come face to face with arch-nemesis Nergal – all while battling his own inner demons!"

Fans will be happy to know that Matt Ryan, the man who played the character in the brief live-action series and Legends of Tomorrow, will be reprising his role here. This isn't the first time Ryan has provided his voice for an animated Constantine, previously voicing him in the Justice League Dark animated film.

Constantine: City of Demons comes to Blu-Ray and digital outlets on October 9.
