David Harbour Wants To Bring Out The “Sweet” And “Weird” Side of Hellboy

Last month, Millenium announced that it was working on a Hellboy reboot with Neil Marshall as its helmsman and David Harbour attached as the unwilling Harbinger of the Apocalypse. Though fans were very upset that the company decided against bringing back the original Hellboy, Ron Perlman, and director Guillermo del Toro, it seems like many have begun to warm up on the idea of having Harbour take over the role.

Now, in an interview with Yahoo! Movies, Harbour teases how he wants to bring back the sweeter side of Hellboy to the big screen.

"[Hellboy] is very rich. I think the films did a certain thing, the comics do a certain thing. Hellboy is kind of a neurotic, messed-up individual who's destined for a horrible fate. He's destined to become the beast of the apocalypse. Whenever he shows up and does the right thing, people throw beers at him and show up with pitchforks and he still manages to do the right thing. I think it's funny and it's sweet and it's weird, and hopefully I can bring that to it as well."

The Stranger Things star also explains that the reason why he was tasked to play Hellboy was because of his role as Police Chief Hopper in the popular Netflix science fiction thriller series.

"I would not be doing Hellboy if it wasn't for Stranger Things, no," he shared. "I would not. A lot of people responded to it. It's got a lot of elements — Hopper is a very complicated character and has a lot of levels. And he is heroic, but he's messed up, and I think they want this for this Hellboy as well."

Based on the interview, it's pretty clear that Harbour is taking the role very seriously and studying the character so that he can live up to the role and to Perlman's rendition of the character. We hope that the Stranger Things star can pull that off when the film hits the big screen.

Hellboy: Rise of the Blood Queen doesn't have a release date just yet, but we'll keep everyone updated as soon as we get word.
