David Harbour Thinks His Hellboy Movie Failed Because of Guillermo Del Toro Fans

While it looked promising, the 2019 Hellboy reboot ended up being a failure, not making a ton of money and failing to leave an impression on critics and fans alike. Though the movie looked good, it ended up being a mess that no one enjoyed, though we're sure there are a few fans here and there. David Harbour, who most people know for his work in Stranger Things, had the chance to reflect on this movie and now feels that it was destined to fail due to Guillermo del Toro fans.

As many fans know, Guillermo del Toro directed the first two Hellboy movies, which were a bit goofy but had a ton of heart and effort put into them. Also helping was Ron Pearlman's perfect performance as the title character, managing to make the red-skinned demon-like character a charismatic and fun dude. Because fans enjoy these movies so much, Harbour feels that his take on the character was going to fail no matter what, as he revealed in an Instagram Q and A (Via ComicBookMovie).

"I think it failed before we began shooting. Because I think that people didn't want us to make the movie and for some reason there was like a big…Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman created this iconic thing that we thought could be reinvented and then they certainly - the loudness of the internet was like, 'We do not want you to touch this.'"

Harbour was smart enough to not criticize the movies that Guillermo del Toro directed but it's hard not to feel bad for him. This could have been another franchise film but fans were just too disappointed in the movie. Granted, it was nowhere near as good as the ones del Toro made and we now wish the director was allowed to make Hellboy 3.

Fans can now watch the 2019 Hellboy reboot on digital media. Don't go outside.
