David Harbour: Hellboy Reboot is More Horror than Superhero Movie

It's been a decade since the last Hellboy movie and the franchise is currently gearing up for a reboot coming next year. New Hellboy actor David Harbour talks about the difference of his take and says that his version will be more horror and monsters compared to Guillermo del Toro's first adaptations.

Talking during a panel at the NYCC 2018 (via Variety), Harbour explains, "There's this dark, kind of horror-y, monster element to [the Hellboy reboot]… I think that's really at its core in a different way a little bit than a superhero movie."

Admittedly Del Toro and Ron Perlman's take was a more kid-friendly character—which I thought was actually quite interesting seeing that he's a literal demon come from hell.

When the movie was first announced, a lot of people were understandably angry that they didn't just decide to conclude the franchise that Del Toro had started, but after seeing how great Harbour looked in the costume, I think people are more or less warming up to the Hellboy reboot.

Some footage was said to have been revealed at the NYCC panel as well, and everyone who saw it seems to have been impressed with this new take on the character. We don't have anything online yet, but I'm guessing the drop will come sometime before the month ends.

The Hellboy reboot is directed by Neill Marshall and stars David Harbour, Ian McShane, Daniel Dae Kim, and Milla Jovovich as the Blood Queen. Catch it in theaters April 12, 2019.
