David Ayer: Steppenwolf was Supposed to be a Major Player in Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad and Justice League are both considered low points for the DCEU, but some fans believe that this was due to meddling from the studio heads. There has been a high demand for the release of Zack Snyder's cut of Justice League (and recently David Ayer's cut of Suicide Squad), and Ayer himself has just confirmed that the two films were originally supposed to be more connected.

A fan had posted up this leaked concept art of Steppenwolf in Suicide Squad, and Ayer then confirmed the original plans.

While I think it would have been great for both movies to be connected, I think it would have been playing it too close to the chest if they had Steppenwolf be the cause of the Enchantress' rampage. At best, with these cinematic universes, there has to be room for the plot to breathe so the film can be saved from any inconsistencies or character choices in the future.

For now, fans are still demanding WB to #ReleasetheSnyderCut and #ReleasetheAyerCut, but it looks like the studio isn't budging. It seems that the focus is going to be more on the future, and I can imagine revisiting the past would just keep people there instead of embracing the new stories in universe.

Plus there's heavy debate online whether these cuts of the films actually exist.

The DCEU is finally looking to get back on its feet, and the first film since Justice League will be Aquaman which is set to come out Dec. 21.
