David Ayer Offers Update on Bright 2

Despite having some narrative problems, Netflix's Bright still has a very interesting world, and a sequel had been announced even before the movie hit the streaming service. What's annoying is, it's been years since we got any significant update, but now director David Ayer has given us a status report on the film.

Talking to SlashFilm, Ayer confirms that the movie is still "in development," and that hopefully, they could "mount that up soon." While we have no idea where the sequel would take the story, Ayer did have this to say:

"It's a great opportunity for all of us to explore the world more… I think people felt like there was a lot of doorways to explore. People were like, ‘Tell us about the dragon. Tell us about this, the history.' So it's a very rich world and I think we're going to drill down some more."

Admittedly Bright is one of those movies where you don't have to think too hard to enjoy the film. Sure there are some holes in the narrative, but the movie looks gorgeous, and the world is absolutely fascinating. Heck, Disney Pixar is making a PG version of Bright with their upcoming Onward movie starring Tom Holland and Chris Pratt.

Besides Bright 2, the same site says that Ayer could be working on an adaptation of The Dirty Dozen. With Gotham City Sirens on hold, DD could very much be Ayer's next project. Hopefully, Will Smith and Joel Egerton haven't lost enthusiasm for Bright 2 by then.

No release date has been announced for the Bright sequel.
