David Ayer Describes His Original Cut of Suicide Squad

Suicide Squad has probably gone down to be one of the least beloved DCEU movies (besides Justice League) and several people online have been doing some digging and trying to find out what went wrong. We know that the final cut was something far from director David Ayer's original vision, and Ayer himself comes out on Twitter to give us an idea of his original lineup.

Replying to a fan who had questions about the character development, Ayer reveals:

Based on what's been reported before, Suicide Squad was supposed to have a cut that felt closer to the first reveal at SDCC 2015, which made the movie look darker and more serious. After the backlash of Batman v Superman, though, it was said that the studio demanded Suicide Squad be re-edited into something more "fun" and colorful, and the final cut of the film comes from the same company that edited the Bohemian Rhapsody version of the trailer.

Though Suicide Squad wasn't received well critically, the film still made a lot of money in the box office. After all, the movie isn't completely terrible. The aesthetic is fantastic, and Will Smith and Margot Robbie absolutely shine in the film. Even Jai Courtney gets to redeem himself after Terminator Genisys.

For now, the script for the Suicide Squad sequel has been finished, but there's still a long way to go before production actually starts. Margot Robbie is set to work on Birds of Prey this coming January, so the sequel will just have to wait until later in the year to begin.

Hopefully, it will end up way better than the first film.

No release date has been set for Suicide Squad 2.
