We've proven over the last three years that the dynamic duo of Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni can take the Star Wars universe to the next level and The Mandalorian pretty much proved that there's still hope for the franchise despite the sequel trilogy failing to click with the fandom. But despite the great chemistry the Favreau and Filoni share, they apparently don't always see eye-to-eye and as revealed in The Art of The Mandalorian: Season 2 (via The Direct), the two had opposing views about how a certain character should be presented in the MandoVerse.

According to Filoni himself, it took them a while before coming to a decision as to which character should mentor Grogu and teach him the ways of the Jedi. Obviously, The Mandalorian Season 2's jaw-dropping finale revealed that it was none other than Luke Skywalker himself, an idea that came from Filoni. However, there came a point where Jon wanted Ahsoka to be the one to keep an eye on the Child.

Filoni shares: "There were a lot of debates about [Ahsoka Tano pointing the way to Luke Skywalker]. And Jon and I went back and forth, because if [Ahsoka can't take Grogu], then who will?" He added that he never envisioned for Tano to be Grogu's mentor. "Taking care of the Child is not her destiny. That's not what I've been planning for her to do [laughs], so I can't change it up."

Thankfully, both directors were able to come to a cohesive decision and while Favreau has undoubtedly done wonders for the MandoVerse, it was definitely the right call to make Luke Skywalker Grogu's mentor as it aligns with the sequel trilogy's Jedi Academy arc.

Meanwhile, Lucasfilm's Ahsoka series is expected to begin production this year.
