During the Star Wars Celebration, Lucasfilm only promised an exciting future for the franchise’s slate of projects. Dave Filoni is one of the directors that fans are expecting to give them what they want.

Sitting down with Empire Magazine, Filoni teased what to look forward to in his upcoming Star Wars movie, claiming it is set to define a new era in the lore.

“The way I look at it, there are [small] stories, and then there’s the big story of the day, too,” Filoni said. “A New Hope, Empire and Return Of The Jedi tell the important parts of the tale that really define the history of the period. There are all kinds of sub-stories underneath that. We’ve been building all these small stories.”

The filmmaker detailed the connection between Rogue One: A Star Wars Story and Star Wars: Andor as an example of how a theatrical event is incorporated into a TV series.

“To me, a theatrical experience has to have a big idea -- a monumental moment in the time period that changes what’s happening,” he continued. “What [Andor showrunner Tony Gilroy] has done and what we did in Rebels, everything then changes when Luke blows up the Death Star. You’re looking for those moments that define an era, and that’s what the films really should be about – whether it’s characters coming together, or a defining moment.”

So far, the information that has been revealed about the project is set during the New Republic, the timeframe between the fall of the Galactic Empire and the rise of The First Order.

Filoni's movie is expected to conclude the stories of The Mandalorian and The Book of Boba Fett. With Ahsoka set to see the live-action debut of Grand Admiral Thrawn, the chance for his presence to be significant in the movie is higher.

When asked what more information he could share about his vision for his movie, Filoni played coy.

“I have ideas, of course. I will not tell you what they are!” said the director. “There are little things along the way that I've built across different mediums, all in preparation for things that come later.”

The Star Wars catalog is available to watch on Disney.
