Dave Bautista believes that Marvel Studios dropped the ball on Drax the Destroyer big time and for the longest time, the former WWE superstar has expressed his frustration at how his Guardians of the Galaxy character is being utilized. The wrestler-turned-actor, who is known by fans for his no-nonsense attitude has fearlessly thrown shade at Marvel for turning Drax into a comic relief type of character when the source material presented him quite differently.

As of late, Bautista is getting renewed appreciation from movie fans thanks to his involvement in Denis Villeneuve's Dune remake where he plays the role of Glosu "The Beast" Rabban. According to Bautista himself, he considers the role as a huge blessing to his acting career simply because he's taken more seriously as an actor.

During an interview with ABC News (via ComicBookMovie), the star of Army of the Dead shockingly berated his MCU role and implied that being part of the Dune franchise is a better opportunity for him. He said: "The thing with this character was it just gave me an opportunity to showcase a different type of performance. And that’s what I really love about working with [director Denis Villeneuve], I get an opportunity to show myself as a performer in a different light. … I’m not just a guy in Guardians [of the Galaxy] walking around shirtless and saying stupid shit. [The role] really just gives me the opportunity to just play these like really, really deep characters. So that’s a blessing."

I mean, say what you will about Dave's sentiments and the way he approaches things but he's actually right. Sure, Drax has given us some of the funniest moments in the MCU but in terms of the character's growth and development, it's been evident for years that Marvel Studios isn't keen on giving him a significant role in the franchise. Of course, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 could change all that but with Bautista potentially on his way out of the billion-dollar franchise, I think it's a little too late and like he said, he wants to be taken seriously as an actor.

The Dune remake is still showing in cinemas. Meanwhile, the MCU's third Guardians of the Galaxy film is scheduled for release on May 5, 2023.
