Dark Phoenix may or may not be the final X-Men film from 21st Century Fox, but there are still a number of fans excited for, what may be, the last installment in this particular series. The first trailer of the film just came out and fans have had mixed responses to it thus far, so we'll have to wait for more information to win over those already dismissing it.
In an interview with Empire (via ComicBook.com), director Simon Kinberg revealed a number of interesting details about the upcoming film. One of those was the fact that Scott Summers aka Cyclops will already be in a relationship with Jean Grey. The last film hinted that they had feelings for each other, but it looks like this movie will be making their relationship official.
Adding this relationship to the last movie would have made it feel forced, but entering the relationship in media res is also an odd move. Then again, most of us were just waiting for them to get together so this won't feel too forced. Hopefully, the two actors have some chemistry and their romance feels realistic.
Scott and Jean have had quite the rocky journey in the comics. The two have been separated by a number of things, whether it was the power of the Phoenix or Scott's attraction to Emma Frost, these two have been through the ringer. Dark Phoenix obviously won't have any of that, but it's worth noting how much baggage this relationship carries.
Dark Phoenix is slated for a February 14, 2019, release.
