Dark Phoenix Could be First X-Men Film to be Released Under Disney Banner

The Disney/Fox merger is set to solidify early next year, and with the release of Dark Phoenix delayed to June, it's possible that it will be the first Fox X-Men movie to be distributed under the Disney banner.

As per The Hollywood Reporter, Disney and Fox have started synergizing their release dates to further compliment each other's films. For one, the Murder on the Orient Express sequel was pushed to 2020 as to avoid any clashes with Star Wars Episode IX, and they've also moved the release of Brad Pitt's Ad Astra from January to late May.

With that in mind, it's possible that Dark Phoenix will be the first X-movie to be distributed under the Disney banner. Then again, with the MCU set to absorb the X-Men and Fantastic Four soon, I think it's possible that DP will still mark the end of the main Fox X-franchise as previously rumored.

Originally set to come out this November, Dark Phoenix had caught a snag and was delayed to February. Now the film has been pushed back further way into June. We don't know as to the reason, but it could have something to do with the Disney/Fox merger.

Personally, I think that Marvel and Disney should just let the Fox X-franchise end and reboot all the characters for their universe. The X-Men movie timeline is already jumbled enough as it is, and I'd prefer to just start everything again as compared to beating a dead mutant horse.

As it stands, the only Fox X-franchise I think worth salvaging is Deadpool, but we don't have any updates on the future of that character as of now.

Dark Phoenix is set to come out June 7, 2019.
