Daredevil Star Charlie Cox Tries To Explain Why Some Actors Hate Comic Book Movies

Moviegoers might be enjoying the slew of comic book movies that have been coming their way the past few years, however, independent stars like Ethan Hawke has been less than supportive of the superhero film genre. Though Daredevil actor Charlie Cox doesn't share the same sentiments, he does empathize with the Academy Award-nominated actor.

Cox just recently chatted with The Telegraph about his Marvel Netflix series, Daredevil, and during his interview with the publication, the Marvel TV star was asked about his thoughts on the domination of comic book movies and the resentment from actors like Hawke that result from the superhero movie genre's growing popularity.

"One of the things that have happened in the last few years is that the movies that typically make lots of money tend to be big franchises," Cox explained. "That means Marvel movies, DC movies, comic book movies… Harry Potter. Hollywood makes so many of these big franchises that there isn't much space — literally cinema space — for smaller independent movies."

The boom of comic book movies has seemingly overshadowed smaller, independent cinematic projects, leaving very little space for these films to thrive. Of course, independent movies do have their staunch supporters, and many of them are at the very center of the field during awards nights like the Oscars and Cannes. However, it's definitely difficult to deny the fact that independent movies don't have the same viewership as its smaller, more serious counterparts, and this, in turn, has created some sort of resentment from actors like Hawke.
