"So grateful for this opportunity to play in the Stephen King universe with such a talented cast," Rider wrote. He also thanked executive producers Andy Muschietti and Jason Fuchs, as well as IT author Stephen King.

King had previously shared his excitement for the upcoming prequel.

“I’m excited that the story of Derry, Maine’s most haunted city, is continuing, and I’m glad Andy Muschietti is going to be overseeing the frightening festivities, along with a brain trust including his talented sister, Barbara,” King said. “Red balloons all around!”

The premise of Welcome to Derry has not yet been revealed but it is expected to take place in the 1960s before the events of It: Chapter One and will also include the origin story of Pennywise the Clown. The mostly Black cast seems to confirm that the series will cover what happened to the people on that unfortunate night in The Black Spot which was founded by Mike Hanlon's father.

Welcome to Derry is currently the project's working title and the series will expand on the story presented in IT and IT: Chapter Two. Stay tuned for more updates on this story.
